If you already know that you can view full html in your emails on your S60 phone then don't read this. Others may feel like a bonehead like I did for not discovering this already.

Do you ever get emails on your phone from companies or organizations that you subscribe to wishing that you can see the email in full html, instead of just the basic text? It's actually something that has bugged me thinking that it's not possible, but I never took time to find this feature. Little did I know it was right in front of my face! I discovered this on accident when trying to open a picture attachement.

The built in email application on your N95, N82, or any S60 phone gives you the option to view the html version of any email. You'll see it right below the subject line in your email. Look for "Attachment.html" with a little paperclip next to it. It's where all your normal email attachements are at. Click on it and you'll get the html version of the email opened up in web browser. Simple as that.

Check out the screenshots below, the first one shows how the email looks before you see the full html, and the last one shows the full html.

Screenshot0014Screenshot0015

If you want you can also click here to view the steps to set up your Gmail account on your S60 handset.

What other solutions are there for viewing full html emails besides this one? Personally I think this is the best way, but I'm all ears to other alternatives.

I've been waiting for someone to figure this out for a long time. Being a huge hockey fan, specifically the LA Kings (yeah I know they suck) I've always wanted to listen to games when I'm away from a radio and computer. Until today I haven't seen a way to do this because S60 doesn't suppord Windows Media Player files - yet.

A member of Howard Forums that goes by acsguitar has posted a tutorial to get NHL.com radio and MLB.com radio to stream to your Nokia S60 handset. It isn't a very simple solution, but if your eager enough and willing to get this done then you can follow his step by step guide.

I personally haven't tried it out, but I will be doing so tonight. You will need a few tools to get this done. VLC Player, Firefox Media Player Connectivity, and Orb (all of which I have installed on my computer already). Your computer must also be on and connected to the internet so your phone can interact with it.

Click here for the full tutorial on streaming baseball and hockey on your S60 phone. Hopefully this solution will work for all WMP streams as well, like I said I'll be doing some testing as soon as I can.

It's no doubt that the increased RAM of the newer S60 devices such as the N95 8gb and N82 greatly improve the functionality and overall experience of these phones. Heavy tasks and multitasking is now possible without crashing the phone or slowing it down to turtle speeds.

I remember about a year ago Nokia started using the tagline "multimedia computers" to describe the Nseries. That was back when I had the Nokia N73. The tagline never really caught on for me since opening the web browser along with a few other heavy applications would just cause the phone to lockup or simply close all open tasks. Multimedia computer didn't come to mind without enough RAM to multitask.

But now things have changed and it's possible to get more done at once. It's not likely that we'll have more than five applications at once, but I've ran into this situation before with the N95-4 that I'm trialing and the Nokia N82. Just the other day I was using Google Maps to give someone directions with the Web open at a page I was reading, Gallery and Share Online open uploading pics to my Ovi.com account, Location Tagger added GPS coordinates to a picture I had just taken, messaging open so I can send over the address of where I was at, and of course the contacts application. Flipping back and forth between all those applications was a breeze. I still had about 74mb left for my available RAM.

Just now I decided to see what happens if I open more that 10 application and flip back and forth between them. Now keep in mind this would be a rare occasion unless your a true power user.

Below is all the applications that I had running with no problem, and I still had 66.5mb of RAM available according to Handy Taskman. If I counted right 15 applications were open.

  • Slick Instant Messenger
  • Calcium Calculator
  • Contacts
  • Sports Tracker
  • Qik
  • Google Maps
  • Web
  • Share Online
  • Internet Radio
  • Calendar
  • Messaging
  • Location Tagger
  • Music Player
  • Screenshot
  • Frozen Bubble Game

I'll post a screenshot of all this later.

Performance like this makes the newer Nseries phones feel like a real multimedia computer. The N95-4's large screen just compliments the computer experience and I have noticed that I haven't used the laptop in awhile, unless I need to make blog posts or update a website. All other media consumption that I used to do at home on the computer is now done on my phone when I'm on my lunch break or getting bored at work. Checking my RSS feeds is a breeze. Uploading my photos to the Web is simple. Emails are mostly handled on my phone now as well. I'm no longer worried about a slowdown or lockup because of two many taskes going on.

Devin from The Nokia Guide has posted a great article that I recommend all S60 users to read. He talks about multitasking and shows some great tips to get the most out of your multimedia computer. He talks about simple shortcuts like holding down the menu button to get your list of open applications and switch between them, something that a good handful of S60 users forget or don't know about. Devin also found a few good articles that give more advanced tips on multitasking. Click here to head over to that article and leave your comments.

What do you think? Are the newer Nseries devices such as the N95 8gb or Nokia N82 worth of such labels like "multimedia computer". Let us know your thoughts below...

I originally posted this article over at The N82 Blog, but this huge news is worthy to be posted here as well since it's such a popular application.

Over the past week or so fans of the popular Youtube applications Emtube and Mobitubia have experienced connection errors. I use Mobitubia and just started noticing this a few days ago, about a day after a commenter here brought it to my attention.

Apparently Youtube has changed up some of their server settings making these applications useless. The developer of Emtube has yet to update his application with the new settings, but fans of Mobitubia should be happy to hear an update is here.

The new version of Mobitubia will be v1.80 build 2 and according to the developer it will be the final public release. Lets hope that Youtube does change their server settings again.

If any Emtube fans have any knowledge a new version in the works, please leave your comments below.

The new version of Mobitubia is released today, so you can click here to get the latest and final public version.

Mobitubia Change Log: v1.80 build 2
- Change Font Style for 352x416 and 800x352 screen size
- Change Application's Icon
- Change Some Menu Icons
- Change Splash Screen
- Splash Screen has timer now
- Change whole Video Playing method
- Unicode characters supported for searching
- Language Support: Thai
- Send Saved Clip to another device via Bluetooth and IR
- Add "Sort by" feature in Search menu
- Fixed: Change for YouTube new system

I have mentioned numerous times that Mobitubia is my favorite application for Youtube, mainly because it works a lot better over an Edge connection for us users here in the States with a Nokia N82 or older Nseries phone. Click here to see my review of the Mobitubia freeware application if you haven't tried it out yet.

Thanks to an email from a reader you can now get your full dose of N82 black pictures. Someone over at NokiaMania.cz has posted a ton of photos of the beauty with shots from every angle - literally.

I personally am on the fence on which color I like better. At first I thought I'd love the N82 black, but I've grown fond of the unique look titanium color. I'm really bothered that the phone gets scratched so easy, I wonder if the black version will have the same problem.

Nokia PC Suite has been updated a few weeks ago and it sure is a dandy. The new version is 6.86.9.0 and brings a few welcome additions.

You can now view text messages and reply to text messages all from your computer. You can also view calendar entries, but you can't add or delete any. Hopefully they implement this in the future.

Just because of these two new features I have found myself using PC Suite more. And you can also connect your phone to PC Suite via bluetooth so you won't need any wires.

I have also found myself using the Photo Transfer tool in PC Suite a lot more. Older versions used to crash my computer, but this one is working a lot more smoothly.

Needless to say I had a great time at Disneyland on Saturday. Besides the sun not coming out and it being overcast all day everything went smoothly. The longest my girfriend and I spent in a line was 45 minutes which is nothing compared to the average 2 hour wait times. Of course she was bugging me to put my damn phone away all morning and was happy to hear my battery was dead by 1pm in the afternoon. I attemped to stream live video to Qik, geotag photos and lay them out on a map, and embed a live slideshow as I was taking photos. In case you missed the post from that day you can click here to check out the article. I ran into a few problems during the day but overall I thought I did a pretty good job of documenting as much as I could with the N95-4. Your not going to see much of Snoopy and Micky in the media below, we were more into the rides and scenery.

Battery Life
I knew the battery life of the N95-4 wasn't going to last me all day so I should've picked up an extra battery or mobile charger. The trip was last minute so I didn't have time for either. I didn't start using the phone till about 9am and like I said it finally pooped out around 1pm. Thats about four hours. In that time I took about 50 photos which were geotagged and about 30 of them were uploaded to Flickr. Over the 3g data connection I streamed about 10 minutes of live video to the internet which I'm sure did a number on the battery. I was using the 3g signal the entire time instead of switching to GSM mode when I didn't need 3g. Doing that would've conserved some battery life. I also published a blog post and sent about 10 multimedia messages to friends and family. I wish the battery was larger but there were steps I could've taken to increase the battery life, but I didn't. There was still a whole second half of the day that I didn't get to document. I missed out on recording a lot of the rides and also the new park across from Disneyland called California Adventure. I could've gotten a ton of awesome photos over there. Oh well next time I will be more prepared.

Streaming Live Video With The Qik Application
If you haven't tried out Qik to stream live video from your S60 phone to the internet then you should really give it a shot. They have fast servers and the video comes out pretty good considering your streaming wirelessly. I embedded my Qik channel into the article from the day so that readers can see the video I was taking as I go. If they wanted to they could've went to my Qik profile and started chatting with me live which is a great feature to go along with live video. Mark Guim from The Nokia Blog just recently wrote an article about the capabilities of Qik and live chatting. You can set the title of your video and description as well as you go so people know what they'e looking at. Below you can see one of the videos from the Disneyland trip that I streamed live here at Symbian Addict. Live video streaming wouldn't have been possible without the 3g internet speeds of the Nokia N95-4. It would've turned out choppy and had lots of buffering. The video below turned out to be pretty lame cuz the wizard sucked at there were no magic tricks...

Geotagging Photos & Uploading Them To A Map
I used the Location Tagger application to add the GPS location to each photo and then uploaded them to a live Google Map which was embedded here at the blog. I recently wrote up an article over at The N82 Blog which shows the steps you need to take to place your geotagged photos on a map. Click here to check that out. It's really pretty simple once you've done it a few times. As you can see from the map below we covered a pretty good amount of ground. Because of the dead battery I couldn't get photos of the other side of the park. Don't forget you can use the zoom buttons to get a closer look at the location.

Photo Slideshow With Share On Ovi
Here is a slideshow of a lot of the photos I took with the N95-4. You can click the photo to see the larger version. It will take you to the Ovi website.

A Few Things Just Didn't Work
I wanted to record my distance, steps, and GPS route around Disneyland with Nokia Sports Tracker. I've used it before on the N82 and its a great application. But for the life of me I can't get it to work on the N95-4. The application loads just fine but when I click "start" to allow it to begin tracking the application just crashes. I was really bummed about that because I could've showed off the route and all the walking we did all around Disneyland.

Another thing that failed me was Share On Ovi. I wanted to upload all of my photos live to Ovi so I can share them live with you here at the blog. Well Ovi was down for maintenance pretty much the whole day. So I had to rely on Flickr. Thats actually the first time I saw Ovi down for that long so I don't think its a common occurance.

And my final complaint - No xenon flash. Most of the rides were in the dark and I wanted to take a few photos. I tried it but they came out completely useless. Below is a photo from the Pirates of The Caribbean ride.

I have a bunch more that look just as bad if not worse. The Nokia N82 would've been the perfect phone for these lighting conditions. I would've gotten so much more detail and color, not to mention light. These horrible shots in the dark are making me really wish the N95-4 had a xenon flash like the N82. That would've made it the perfect phone for me and completely tipped the scales when it comes to my liking of the N82 over the N95.

Other than that everything else went smoothly. Besides the weak battery life the N95 8gb proved to be a great companion to recording a very special day at Disneyland.

Today I'm heading to Disneyland to have some phone at the happiest place on earth. I live literally 15 minutes from Disneyland, yet I haven't been there in about 15 years. I'm lucky that I have the Nokia N95-4 right now so that I can share with you guys my day in real time, at least thats my goal.

For live video streaming I will be using the free S60 application called Qik. I've looked at a few different possibilities but Qik is the right choice. Their server is fast and they way they allow me to share the videos is great. You can head over to my channel and leave a comment on the live video and I will it on my phone. I can then answer your questions or comments over the video. If I am offline you can still see videos I have taken recently and leave some comments.

Below is my Qik channel in which I will be streaming live video randomly throughout the day from Disneyland.

Here is a map that will have photos of my day laid out according to their GPS location. For this I will use Nokia's Location Tagger application which is still in beta but works great.

I wanted to use Ovi to show you guys a live slideshow of the pictures, but it looks like the website for Ovi is down for maintenance. Huge bummer.

When I get back from the trip I'll show you guys exactly how I did all this.

Imagine your sitting on the bus, train, or at the DMV and your bored out of your mind. You want to bust out your iTouch or Playstation Portable cuz your Nseries or Eseries just isn't enough for you. But your limited to what you can do because theres no Wifi connection available. Connecting to the internet and browsing the Web is impossible without a hotspot.

Not with JoikuSpot. This amazing and free application for your Nokia S60 phone allows you to share your internet connection and transform it into a Wifi hotspot. So once you have this application running on your phone, another device can find it and see it as a WLAN connection and use it. This great idea just furthers my anger for the lack of 3g support here in the United States. We still have to rely on an Edge connection.

Here is a video of JoikuSpot being used with the iPhone. The internet looks really slow in this video and I can assure it's not that slow. Something must've been wrong with the connection, but either way he got it to work...

How it works...
JoikuSpot software is installed directly to the phone. When switched on, laptops and iPods can establish instant and fast wireless internet connection via smartphone's JoikuSpot access point using phone's own 3G internet connection. Multiple devices can connect to JoikuSpot in parallel and seamlessly share the same 3G internet connection. JoikuSpot acts thus as an internet gateway to external WLAN devices.

New in this release...
-Encryption support with WEP including automatic 128bit key generator
-Battery threshold shutting down the client when battery level is too low (adjustable)
-Default Access point can be set-Support for secure SSH tunnels with Putty
-90 days free trial. JoikuSpot Light will stay FREE also in the future. We shall later on introduce new Premium version with small payment. Naturally Premium will include even more advanced features.

03/16/2008 - Share on Ovi

As you can see from the screenshot above of my home laptop I managed to connect to JoikuSpot with my N82. Once I fired up the program my laptop found the connection pretty fast. Everything connected fine, but once I started using the connection on my laptop it would drop after about 4 minutes. Really odd, but I know this application is still in beta so these types of things are expected. The internet speeds were just what you'd expect from an Edge connection. Not slow but not fast.

Make sure you have an unlimited data package with your carrier because this application uses a ton of data.

News came in a few weeks ago about the latest Nokia N95 8gb firmware, specifically version 20.0.016. This new firmware brings automatic screen rotation which works really well on the Nokia N82, not to mention a handful of bug fixes. Now there is no need to slide open the multimedia side of the slider to rotate the screen to landscape. This especially will come in handy when viewing the web and photo gallery.

So obviously this is great news for N95-2 users, but what the North American variant N95-4?

Will this be another case of Nokia leaving out North America when it comes to firmware updates? Obviously it's too early to tell since the N95-4 just got released under a month ago, but judging from the horrible position the N95-3 American owners are in - they may be on the same track. The N95-3 owners can't even get most Python applications to work, let alone flash lite 3 and demand paging. Take Ricky from Symbian-Guru for example - he has rightly complained numerous times about this and still nothing. What will it take? The Guru says, "(Note to readers - I’m finding it really hard to get upset about the lack of updates for the N95-3 anymore. I mean, it’s just getting tiresome mentioning it over and over and over again, with nothing happening. Nokia rocks at communicating, save for big lapses like this. This N95-3 update, if and when we get it, had better ROCK and bring something REALLY cool)".

Hopefully Nokia will do something minimal on their end to please their few but loyal North American Nseries fans.

My trial of the Nokia N95-4 has been a great one so far - the main reason being is the North American 3g internet speeds. I knew that if anything were to pull me away from the Nokia N82 and the Xenon flash, it would be the 3g speeds of the N95-4. Little did I know the temptation would be this strong.

04122008403 - Share on Ovi

If you haven't noticed I'm a huge fan of the Nokia N82 for multiple reasons, but here in the states we don't have the luxury of having 3g speeds at our fingertips like the European N82 users do. We have to settle for a slow Edge connection which I just recently found out is about seven to eight times slower than 3g speeds. Before I started using a Nseries phone about 8 months ago I had experience with 3g on a non-smartphone Samsung handset, specifically the A707. I knew it the 3g was fast, but I didn't use the internet nearly as much as I do on a Nseries phone. So I didn't get a true test of 3g. So the Nokia N95-4 is my first experience with North American 3g and Symbian S60. And so far it's been amazing.

It's not just the big internet data transfers that impresses me. It's mostly the small things. The most common and noticeable improvement is the speed of email retrieval and downloads. I use the built in email application to keep my Gmail inbox in sync via IMAP. The email connection is never interrupted, even when on a call. 3g can share data and voice at the same time. Then when I get a new email and want to retrieve it the message downloads in about 2 seconds as apposed to the average 8-10 seconds over an Edge connection. This makes the email client exactly how I've always wanted to be - fast and instantaneous. As close as possible to a real desktop email client on a S60 phone.

I have also found myself browsing the web a whole lot more. My favorite hockey website is www.tsn.ca/nhl. It's a very media rich website with lots of images and video previews. With a 3g connection the site loads in just under 20 seconds. On an Edge connection it reaches 40 seconds then I have to give up. Checking scores, reading news besides RSS feeds, and just normal internet use is no longer a pain. I can now get real good use out of the amazing S60 web browser that can load just about any website.

I still use the Mobitubia application to get my Youtube fix which isn't so bad even on an Edge connection. But now there is no need to save those videos that I like to my memory card. Now I can just save them as favorites and they load within seconds over 3g. Transferring photos over Share Online 3.0 is another area where I see drastic improvement in transfer speeds. The limit for share on Ovi is 6 images at a time. That now takes under a minute when before it would take about 3 minutes. I am also more likely to upload a video to Ovi when before I couldn't cuz it would take up like 10 minutes and I risked a phone call interrupting the upload. Other things like streaming live video to services such as Qik or Bambuser is also now possible. With an Edge connection its not even worth it.

So obviously I'm having a great experience with this phone. I feel like I'm carrying around my laptop, but of course much smaller and more convenient. I have a true feeling of always being "connected". Not having to worry about my Slick IM program being disconnected during a chat over AIM is a huge plus. It's little things like this that is making the Nokia N95-4 a joy to use. I really can understand now why North American users would choose this phone over the N82, but I am not yet fully convinced that 3g outweighs Xenon flash, at least for me.

For North American Nseries fans, this is the perfect phone for consuming media. I bet AT&T are really hating N95 8gb users that have the unlimited data plan. With an Edge connection I can easily it 80mb a month of data transfer. Who knows how much I can consume with faster internet speeds.

Keep checking back for more parts of my review of the Nokia N95-4. Please leave your questions or comments below. What are other ways I can benefit from 3g speeds that I haven't mentioned.

I've been using the free Mountains theme on my S60 phones for a few months now and never get sick of it. The icons, list highlights, background, and meter bars all look great and have a clean look.

nokiaphotos - Share on Ovi

If you were keeping track of some of the news from Mobile World Congress back in February then you'd remember some video samples and bits of news about the new computer software called Nokia Photos which was introduced with the newer Nseries devices such as the N78 and N96.

Well Tron from Nseriesus.com has found the Nokia Photo program at Nokia.com. From the video demo it looks like a great program, keeping your photos, videos, texts, and notes in perfect sync with your computer. The demo video that you can find at this link shows off exactly how Nokia Photos works.

Here is how Nokia describes the new software...

Nokia Photos is a free PC application that you can use to manage all your photos and videos. Specially designed to work with Nseries devices, Nokia Photos can be used to transfer, edit, organize and share all the pictures and videos that you take with your Nseries device or digital camera. You can also subscribe to online photo feeds and order prints* of your favorite pictures. Nokia Photos can also load your Nseries device with hundreds of pictures and videos from your PC. Nokia Photos makes sure the videos are converted to the right format, so that you can play them in your Nseries device.

Not just the newer Nseries devices will be compatible with Nokia Photos - All Nseries Devices will be going all the way back to the Nokia N70.

This program ties in the new Share On Ovi website where you can host all your photos for free and share them with your friends and family. Unlimited storage - You can't go wrong. It's truley a great offer by Nokia for their customers. Ricky from Symbian Guru just recently wrote up a little article about the good things of Ovi and a few minor bad things. Click here to check out that article. Besides Ovi you can also upload to Vox and Flickr.

Another shocker. It's already availble for download. But the downfall is its a huge download - 150mb and video acceleration is recommended by Nokia. Come on guys can't you make a lighter program than that. We want it to work smooth and click, instead of having lots of flash and glamour. With my slow ass computer I'm gonna hesitate to open up this mammoth program.

Click here to head over and try Nokia Photos.

On older S60 handsets a theme icon was placed in the menu folder so that you can easily access your themes and change them up. Right now on your N82 or N95 to change a theme you have to go to Settings > General > Personalisation > Themes.

Thanks to a developer name Sittiphol, the same guy who created one of my favorite applications called Mobitubia, designed the same Theme Launcher that is found on older phones. Now you can have an icon anywhere you want in your menu linked directly to your Themes. I keep mine in the root folder, but you can push options in your menu and put it in just about any folder you want. I have mine sitting in the Tools folder which is perfect.

It's no doubt that the Nokia N95 8gb is a very good looking phone. The sleek black finish I think is a lot better looking than the silver face on the original N95.But this post won't be about the looks of the phone, instead it is about some of the physical aspects. Since I'm a huge fan of the Nokia N82 you will see some comparisons with the N95-4.

Large Screen & Bright Display

The 2.8" inch screen is one of the best looking screens I've seen as on a mobile phone as far as clarity and size. Everything is so much more enhanced when viewing media and its so much easier on the eyes. Browsing the web on the large screen with blazing 3g speeds has been spectacular, making me feel like I have a laptop with me. Reading emails and text messages is also a breeze especially with the bright screen of the N95-4. Compared to the Nokia N82 this screen is at least twice as bright. Watching movies, Youtube videos, recording video is all so much more enjoyable.

04122008401 - Share on Ovi

04122008434 - Share on Ovi

Getting directions and viewing maps looks great especially using Google Maps which is the application I prefer. It's so much easier to take a quick glance at the huge screen when driving around just to make sure your going the right way or checking the traffic conditions.

Just because of the larger and brighter screen, I think the Nokia N95 8gb is better for consuming media than the N82. The louder volume levels which I will talk about next also make the N95 8GB perfect for consuming media. I would rather do all of the above on the N95 8gb. Don't get me wrong the N82 is great for doing those tasks as well, but the N95 8gb takes the cake.

Sound Quality & Volume

Oh man.Remember those old Motorola Nextels that are louder than crap and super annoying everytime someone gets a chirp? Well the N95 8gb's speakerphone is almost that loud. I am so suprised at how much louder this thing is than any other Nseries phone and I hope that all other Nseries phones from here on out are this loud. Prior to this phone being released, I thought the N73's speakerphone was the loudest in the Nseries. Next is the N95 classic and then the N82. But the N95 8gb now the leader in terms of speaker sound and volume. I am comfortable leaving my N95 8gb in a cupholder and activating the speakerphone while talking. Its loud enough to hear the caller even if my windows are down. With any other phone I have to hold it closer to my face to be able to hear clearly.

At the office once in awhile I like listening to the music player through the stereo speakers instead of headphones. If I put it louder than 40% that would be too loud. Listening at home I can put the volume at 70% and still hear it from the living room to the nearby bedroom with the door closed. There is no crackling but there is a lack of bass with higher volumes. Listening to music through headphones is on par with the Nokia N82. The sound actually is a bit more full on the N95-4 making it a slightly better experience. Needless to say the call quality is great just like on all Nseries phones. RF is wonderful the calls are crystal clear.

The Buttons

The Nokia N95 has a great keypad with large buttons making long texts and emails a breeze. People with large fingers shouldn't have a problem with this phone at all. The multimedia and menu buttons are large and stick out slightly so you can feel whats what if your not looking. Most people will find that the N95's buttons are better than the tiny keys on the N82. For me pounding out short texts is easier and faster on the N82. The smaller keys are spaced out a lot more and make it hard to make a mistake. But for the long detailed messages the N95 is much more comfortable and won't wear out your fingers as fast.

The buttons on the side stick out a little too much for my taste. On the side of the phone is the camera button, along with multimedia and volume buttons. I'd rather have them flush with the rest of the phone to help prevent accidentally pushes much like the side buttons on the N82.

A Few Oddities

There is one thing that I noticed is extremely odd with the keypad of the N95-4. The back lights that show through the keys are not white but instead are a light pink color. It's not really a huge deal but I wonder why Nokia would want such nice masculine phone with a pink back light. I'm not sure if they did it on purpose or not, maybe it's just a defect with this specific phone I have. I'll try and get a picture posted for you to see what I'm talking about. Also another minor flaw is the dust collection on this N95. Of course it's because of the all black color being prone to showing dust. I guess this will come with most black phones. You'll notice in a few photos in the slideshow at the top of the article a few of the images have lots of dust particles on them. It's not really noticeable unless you have your phone in the sunlight.

All of these aspects of the phone have surpassed the N82 in my opinion. I can't really say which keypad is better on either phone, just that the N82 is better for fast and short messages and the N95 is better for long messages without tiring out your fingers. Keep checking back for more parts of my review of the Nokia N95-4.

Living here in the states the N95-4 is a welcome addition to the Nseries lineup and has many improvements over the N95 Classic versions.

Thanks to the kind folks at Wom World I have my hands on the brand new device. I don't have any unboxing pics yet cuz but they'll be added to the bottom of this article tonight. Before I start I just wanted to say that this is the first time I've gotten my hands on a N95 8GB and I wasn't really expected to be that impressed especially since I'm a happy N82 user. I've reviewed the original N95-1 a few months back and while I was amazed by the technology and the build quality was solid. But after becoming a N82 owner I realized how weak and cheap the original N95 really felt compared to the solid feel of the one-piece, no moving parts N82.

But now I have the N95 8GB in my hands and it feels like a completely differenet phone than the N95-1. The bigger screen is the first thing I noticed. In reality its only a .2" inch difference, but when you look at it the screen seems so much bigger. The all black is also a lot more attractive than the silver on the original N95. Believe me I've only had this beauty for about 12 hours and its gotten so many looks. The raised music playback buttons are also a welcome addition making them much more useable.

And The Slider
Lots of people have complained about the wobbly slider on this phone but I guess got a good one. The slider is tight and doesn't wobble. But that still doesn't negate the fact that the slider sucks compared to other phones. My girlfriend's Sony Erriccson that AT&T sells for $29.99 still has a more sturdy slider. Yeah I know the N95 is a double slider but it still can be a lot better. Just the fact that the slider is weak is one of the reasons I'm hesistant to purchase one of these - especially for the price. But luckily for Nokia all the rest of the features tip the scales and make this thing well worth buying.

The Insides
The internal 8GB mass storage is plenty of space for literally hundreds of songs, dozens of movies and videos, close to a thousand pictures, and whatever else you want on your phone. I haven't fully loaded it up yet but right now I have 237 mp3s, the movie "300", about 30 pictures and a Southpark Episode loaded up on the N95. I still have 5.9 gigabytes free space. This is most memory I've ever had on a phone. On the N82 I have a 4GB which I'm always pushing to the limit. When I get off work tonight I'm gonna load this puppy up to the brim and report back with my thoughts on all this storage space.

There is plenty of RAM to keep all my applications open and running in the background. Right now I'm running the music player, location tagger, and the web browser and still have 79mb remaining. I'm going to put this to a real test in another article. So far the whole experience with the UI has been great. It's snappy and has almost no lag. I've had a few problems with some websites and the browser shutting down but nothing major.

Like I said at the beginning this phone is near perfect. There are a few things that are lacking like the xenon flash that I'll go into more later. For now I need to get some more use out of the phone and keep putting it to the real test. Being the first time I've experience 3g speeds on an Nseries device I'm extremely impressed. It completely changes the way I use the phone.

Keep checking back over the next few days for more articles and thoughts on the Nokia N95-4. I will be comparing it to the N82 and talk more about the 3g speeds, camera, memory, and GPS.

Well theres a huge buzz going on over at The N82 Blog about the phone finally shipping to customers. We've gotten a handful of photos to show you. Some photos are from retailers and some from the first customers to recieve the N82 black.

Below is a slideshow from the a commenter that finally got the phone...

And these are photos from various retailers...

More photos will be added throughout the day. I'm curious to know more thoughts on this. I know a ton of people love this phone, but I'm wondering if theres a lot that just aren't interested in this color.

Wow I've really been lagging here at Symbian Addict. I say sorry to my every day readers I've just been so busy over at The N82 Blog and a few other websites I run. Work has been a killer as well.

I decided I'll do a rundown of everything I missed so that you can hand pick what you want to read about. I know still I will miss some news so lookout for another post this afternoon.

First off the big news about the Nokia N82. It's recieved a huge firmware update and the new black version has been spotted as "in stock" at a few retailers. I know many Nseries fans have been awaiting the release of the Nokia N82 black. As for the new firmware update it brings a handfull of new improvements and features. Flash websites are now possible for viewing in the Web Browser, Web Runtime has been added, and built in geotagging. Head over to The N82 Blog for more details and a good discussion.

Nokia N96 Getting Xenon Flash Rumor. Wow this would be a huge improvement on the current N96 which is supposed to feature double LED for the flash. If they add xenon flash instead I would seriously consider getting this phone. Lets hope they are going to improve the battery as well. Is this just a bad April Fools rumor or the real thing. Click here for the source.

Nokia N95-4 has shipped and is coming to Symbian Addict. I am personally going to have the phone for a few weeks to try out thanks to WOM World, so I'll be posting about it. The N95-4 will be my first Nseries phone that I can use NAM 3g on, so it will be interesting to see if I'm left wanting one more than the N82. It should arrive in a few days so I'll keep you posted.

Tube is the codename for the Nokia Touch device. Symbian-Freak has got their gunky grubby hands on some pictures of the device. Apparently it's not going to be an Nseries device but it will be S60. Does this mean Eseries or a new line for Nokia? Click here for the news.

Nokia Music Store goes live in the Netherlands. Press Release: Amsterdam, the Netherlands - Nokia announced today that the Nokia Music Store in the Netherlands has gone live http://www.music.nokia.nl. With millions of tracks from major artists, independent labels, and up-and-coming Dutch acts, the Nokia Music Store let's people enjoy music directly on their Nokia device or personal computer. Part of the Ovi by Nokia offering, the Nokia Music Store, with its compelling combination of download and streaming services, empowers you to connect to music you want, in the way you want. Click here for more. I personally don't have any experince with the Nokia Music Store but I think its a great idea. Something like this surely won't go well with American Carriers however.

Last but not least, the N95-3. I feel mad Nokia has neglected the N95-3 owners with the lack of a firmware update. Nokia - you have thousands of customers out there waiting for an update in your technology so they can take advantage of all the latest features of a great Nseries handset. Click here to have your say.

This is an amazing deal that I came across last night. Pick up a 8gb microSD card made by SanDisk for only $46.19. I can't believe the 8gb cards are this cheap nowadays. I'm sure it's a one time deal so don't wait too long to order.

Click below for the deal...

I just got a 4 gig card so I'm not sure if I'm gonna bite on this one by I just might have to. I'd probably dedicate 6 gigs to music, 1.5 gigs for videos/tv shows and the rest for photos which are constantly rotating off my phone.

Happy Friday everyone hope your enjoying your day.

I got an email today that Smart Settings For S60 application is now available to the public for 11 Euros. Not a bad price for an application with so much functionality.

I think this is some of the best news I've heard in awhile for the Nseries lineup. Dolby Digital has teamed up with Nokia to bring Dolby digital sound to music and videos on high end smartphones. This partnership just solidifies Nokia's Nseries lineup as some of the most advanced phones available.

This news comes to us from Will at IntoMobile.com, he says...

"Dolby's strength lies in their ability to take plain, old stereo sound and give it a 3D feel and increased depth - and now they're bringing their know-how to Nokia's Symbian platform. The Symbian booth at CTIA Las Vegas 2008 was small, really small. They didn't have much to show off, other than the Dolby Digital surround sound app. The booth rep said that Nokia is already gearing up to newer Nokia N95 8GB handsets with the Dolby Digital software already pre-installed.

The application installs and runs in the background when viewing movies or listening to music. When paired with a decent set of headphones, the Dolby signal processing is really amazing. Look for new Nokia N-series handsets to start offering Dolby enhancements in the near-term (according to the rep)."

Click here to read more about this great news. Hopefully this can be installed via a firmware update in the future for current Nseries devices.

N-Gage Application Available Now For The Nokia N82 And N95?

Posted by Mike Macias | Thursday, April 03, 2008 | | 0 comments »

I just got wind from an email that the N-Gage application is now available for the Nokia N82 and N95. Not sure if this brings the full version or not as I'm on my way out the door I don't have time to test it.

If someone would like to test it out you can head to the N-Gage download page and let us know if it works as the full version and not just a trial. Sorry if its just a trial like I said I haven't personally tried it out.

Also check this thread that was started over at Howard Forums to discuss and comment on this update.

Symbian-Freak.com is reporting that the N95 8gb is about to get another firmware update. This for sure is pissing off N95-3 owners who have been waiting for an update for a LONG  time now.

At first I was skeptical about the news of this new firmware - specifically version 20.0.016 since the news was posted at Symbian-Freak.com on April Fools Day. But I just caught a post from lightningjohn over at Howard Forums who also runs the Finest Fones blog. He gave a screenshot of the new firmware version. It looks like this rumor has become true.

The new firmware is supposed to bring automatic screen rotation like the Nokia N82 has, rendering Samirs RotateMe application useless. A handful of other improvements are coming as described below.

New features:
Automatic Screen Rotation (ASR)
Support for new combo memory added

Browser:
Improvement when creating a voice call from WAP page.
Improvements to embedded video functionality in browser.
Sending email via browser flash plugin improvements.

Messaging:
Mail in HTML format handling from Gmail IMAP server improved.

Connectivity:
WLAN connection stability improvements
BT connection stability improvements with certain BT headsets
USB connection stability improvements

Telephony:
Voice call handling improvements after certain type U.S.S.D message receiving.
Stability improvements to gallery for case when there’s lot of content in Gallery
Improvements to switch application
Voicemail icon handling improvements

Localization corrections:
Deletion of all contacts now possible even more than 6000 contacts in phonebook
Startup functionality improvements

Apparently you can only get this firmware at your local Nokia Care Center's and is expected to rollout onto Nokia Software Updater for everyone later this week.

Keep checking back for more updates about the new N95 8gb firmware.
