I just logged into my Share On Ovi account and noticed something new. Map View!
I can't tell you how happy I am that this feature has finally been implemented. It was one of the last remaining features that Flickr had over Ovi. It really is a great feature that works perfectly as far as I can tell. It's only right that Nokia finally gives us this new view since all the high end Nokia smartphones come with GPS and geotagging capabilities.
Find the Maps View button under your channel title.
Check out the screenshots below from my "Working On The Waterfront" channel. All the pictures I take when I'm working a shift at the Port Of LA/LB are uploaded there... See how it looks on the maps -
Initial Map View
As you can see, the images are numbered. Instead of layering multiple images on top of eachother and cluttering the map, Ovi simply numbers how many are in that layer. The more you zoom in the more the images separate and the layers are re-numbered. I think it works perfectly.
Map View When Clicking A Layer Image
When you click the image, now you can see it bigger and scroll through all the other images taken in that place. Once again, great implementation.
Another cool thing is when you click "Share" when in the maps view, it will let you email the maps view page to your friends/family. Personally I think this is huge for sharing vacations, hiking trails, boat rides, tours, whatever.
I haven't seen any official documentation on this yet. I think the Ovi team might have added this functionality during yesterday's update. I'm sure we'll hear something "official" soon.
Are you as happy as I am with these new findings?
What's next?
